Advanced Rug Identification Seminar
|
ARCS hosted a widely successful learning workshop in San Diego and Los Angeles CA last month. Renowned Oriental rug specialist, Val Arbab, Certified Appraiser (ISA CAPP) and teacher for over 35 years presented a once-in-a-lifetime two-day workshop on Turkoman and other Tribal rugs of South Persia.
This was truly a unique opportunity to learn from the best of the best. It's no wonder this special opportunity was a sold-out event!

Val Arbab
Ukrainian-born Valentina "Val" Arbab is one of the most well recognized individuals in the rug collector community. After deciding a career in nursing was not for her, Mrs. Arbab pursued her passion for antique textiles.··She travelled extensively throughout the Middle East, studying the varied cultures and the weavings they produced.··She owned a rug shop for eight years before selling it to focus more on·her appraisal and consultation business.··She holds the highest designations with the International Society of Appraisers (ISA)·and American Society of Appraisers (ASA), and is a Certified Rug Appraiser with the Oriental Rug Retailers of America (ORRA).··In addition to her business activities, Val has been published in numerous rug magazines and journals. She developed and taught a course on appraising oriental rugs for Indiana University and released a video entitled "A Consumer's Guide to Old Decorative Rugs". Through the years Val has supported, encouraged and freely given her time and expertise to the·National Institute of Rug Cleaning and we are fortunate to have her on our ARCS team.
